ACHES has been set up to promote, enhance, and protect human and environmental wellbeing. ACHES provides a forum to highlight and advance the truth about legal, medical and scientific information relating to current and emerging technologies. Our ‘Weekly Picks’ summarise the most relevant news pieces from our partners and collaborators to raise awareness of the health harms caused by such technologies, and offer much-needed solutions to enhance our health.
HHS to Investigate Wireless Health Risk: Calls for Input
Just this week on the Children’s Health Defense (CHD) the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has launched a formal inquiry into the potential health effects of wireless radiation. This will examine radiation from cellphones, cell towers, 5G and other technologies. This investigation comes while the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) faces a court order, prompted by CHD, to explain how exposure limits (set decades ago) protect public health. Robert F. Kennedy Jr posted the following on X: The MAHA Strategy gave us a clear mission: investigate the relationship between electromagnetic radiation and health, identify gaps in our knowledge, and make sure federal policy keeps pace with rapidly changing technology”. On 21 September this week, the HHS issued a formal Request for Information seeking input on radiofrequency (RF) radiation, electromagnetic fields (EMF) and their potential effects on human health. The agency is asking scientists, doctors, industry, families, and the public to submit research, data and firsthand observations by 21 October 2026. See the full story here.
Cell Phones and Wireless Devices: Online Event 30 September
Register now for your free spot to join the expert webinar by Robert Melnick, PhD on 30 September. The webinar is titled “Cell Phones & Wireless Devices: Inadequate Exposure Limits for Cancer and Reproductive Risk”. The FCC and HHS are both seeking public input on wireless radiation and health. This webinar offers a timely opportunity to hear from one of the scientists who helped lead the US government’s landmark research on cell phone radiation. Ronald Melnick served for more than 28 years as a senior toxicologist with the National Toxicology Program at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. He helped design the landmark studies on cell phone radiofrequency radiation (RFR). Those studies, together with the Ramazzini Institute research, found increased cancer in laboratory animals chronically exposed to RFR. Dr Melnick will discuss the scientific evidence linking wireless radiation to cancer and reproductive harm. He will also explain why the WHO-commissioned systematic reviews on RFR should not be interpreted as evidence of safety, and the methodological shortcomings pertaining to claims of safety assurances. Autism, ADHD, Depression and Anxiety: A Common Link?
An article in the BBC says that the rise in mental health disorders, stress, ADHD, and autism are real and that the challenges associated with social media are contributing to this crisis. Even the UK government is commissioning an independent review to examine further mental health conditions, ADHD and autism. Professor Peter Fonagy has prepared a review on this topic that will likely contribute to government policies including NHS services, benefits and support for young people. Over 100 experts worked with Professor Fonagy on the review. A staggering figure shows that the number of children and young people in contact with mental health services in England has ballooned by 50% in the past 5 years. The environment young people experience, especially pressures from social media, is highly toxic. Positive steps include taking broad actions across society, including education, housing, and among families, is needed to tackle this long-term.
LED Lights are Bad for Health
Patricia Burke for Safe Tech International has covered multiple topics and stories, but the story about LED lights being harmful was of particular interest. A study by scientists at University College London (UCL) has shown that prolonged exposure to LED lights could be highly toxic to health. Neuroscientist Glen Jeffery described LED technology as a “clear and present public health emergency” comparable to the toxic building material asbestos. Prolonged exposure to LED lighting in homes, schools, offices and hospitals could raise the risk of diabetes and other metabolic disorders. ACHES is campaigning against harmful lidar and radar in traffic lights and traffic-monitoring equipment.
