ACHES ‘Weekly Picks’ 3 October
ACHES was set up to promote, enhance and protect human and environmental wellbeing. ACHES provides a forum to raise awareness and advance the truth about legal, medical and scientific information relating to current and emerging technologies. ACHES “Weekly Picks” will highlight the most relevant news pieces from our partners and collaborators to raise awareness of the health harms caused by such technologies, and also chronicle the much-needed solutions to enhance our health.
Brighton & Hove: Follow the Move on Smartphones
Last week, ACHES highlighted how children are being harmed by smart technology, especially smartphones. Campaigners have exposed and raised awareness that early access to social media and other online content is harming children’s development and welfare. Thus, we welcome the news this week that Brighton & Hove Council have written to parents urging them not to buy smartphones for children until they are 14 years of age. More schools are now clamping down on the use of mobile phones, so this latest move to limit smartphone use in young children is a great step forward.
Europeans for Safe Communications (ESC) Newsletter
As we say goodbye to September, Safe Tech International introduced its newsletter from Europeans for Safe Connections (ESC), which in its latest campaign is focusing on children. Similar to ACHES, ESC focuses on children, as they are highly vulnerable to EMFs. More broadly, ESC aims to craft succinct impactful strategies to raise awareness across all age groups about environmental well-being and responsible use of technology. The strategy of ESC is to use current developments in society to convey important messages about the risks of electromagnetic field (EMF) radiation more effectively. As noted in the post above, society is beginning to witness a general decline in screen use by children, illustrating that these collective efforts are making a difference!
Hold the Date: Unplug to Uplift!
Last week, we highlighted the Safe Tech International zoom webinar event titled “Unplug to Uplift” taking place on 1 November 2025, from 5 to 7pm in the UK (12 to 2pm US Eastern time). This event is now open for registration. The event will cover social movements encouraging a Smart Phone Free Childhood and other concerns owing to technology health risks, as well as potential solutions. Subjects will include surveillance, digital IDs, addition to technology, children’s health, social media harm, and much more. Watch this space for more updates on the webinar speaker list and thought leaders from around the world!
What the Government Won’t Tell You
Smart meters operate on pulsed microwave radiation and there are many scientific papers illustrating the deleterious effects of such radiation. Moreover, the government relies on ICNIRP (International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation) for the safety of the public in this regard. Although the consultation for Smart Meters closes today (3 October 2025), this and all other consultations must comply with the Gunning Principles (see our recent SubStack on this topic). A huge proportion of the British population fall outside the remit of ICNIRP, and therefore must be considered in terms of protection from microwave radiation emitted by smart meters. ACHES has written a formal letter to object to the Smart Meter rollout, which we will summarise in an upcoming SubStack.
